In June 1763 on the southern flank, between 2500 and 2600 meters, a fissure opens between the Schiena dell’Asino and today’s Pian del Lago.
In just under three months this eruption releases as much as 100 million cubic meters of lava and builds a scoria cone called "La Montagnola", one of the largest mounts of the volcano, today the arrival station of the Etna Cable Car.
To the eye it offers a pale pink, almost clairet; the nose immediately catches hints of wild Mediterranean herbs forming, together with elegant notes of raspberries, wild strawberries and wild blackberries, a full and intense bouquet.
